The ball pinballs around Barca’s box before striking the arm of De Jong. Real clamor for a penalty, a bit hopefully it has to be said, but the referee isn’t interested.

The gulf between Gavi and Pedri, and Kroos and Modric, has been pretty huge tonight. This has the feeling of a changing of the guard.

69′ Real Madrid 0-3 Barcelona
Gavi pinches the ball off Ceballos allowing Lewandowski to lead a counter-attack. He plays the ball out wide to Gavi, who whips a great pass across the face of goal to Pedri, who can’t miss from point-blank range.
Hard to see a way back for Real now.

63′ Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona
Barcelona are calmly passing the ball around the midfield, controlling possession and keeping it away from Real’s players. The few times in the last 10 minutes that Real have gotten on the ball, they’ve struggled to find any openings to attack.
Over the whole game, Barca currently lead possession 56 per cent to 44 and shots nine to two.

55′ Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona
Busquets very casually sets up Lewandowski, who has a very tight angle to shoot on goal. Courtois rushes out to meet him and blocks his effort.
At the moment, Real do not look likely to haul themselves back into this match.

52′ Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona
Absolutely brilliant play by Balde, whose first touch releases him past Carvajal down the left wing. He plays a lovely cross for Dembele who has plenty of space to shoot, but Courtois comes up big with a crucial save.

49′ Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona
Christensen cynically pulls back Rodrygo, and is shown a yellow card for his trouble.
Real didn’t shy away from appealing for the booking, with Ancelotti, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Jr. all waving their hands for it.

Carlo Ancelotti sending on Rodrygo for Camavinga at half-time both an admission that he got his starting line-up wrong, and that Real Madrid need something very different now at 0-2 down.

Rodrygo comes on to begin the second half, taking the place of Camavinga.

Gavi is the youngest player to score in El Clasico (18y 163d) since Ansu Fati in October 2020 (17y 359d).

Gavi’s opener was his first senior Clasico goal, but not his first against Real Madrid… he famously scored two fantastic solo goals against Real when still aged just 12 in the 2016 La Liga Promises tournament:

The Real Madrid attempt to press was pretty woeful there — Toni Kroos goes up on Sergio Busquets, and then Dani Carvajal onto Frenkie de Jong, leaving their team-mates super exposed.

Both sides have had chances, but it’s Barcelona that have taken them so far. Barca are 45 minutes away from delivering Xavi’s first trophy as their manager!

45′ Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona
Barca have cut Real to pieces with this move. Kroos, Carvajal and Militao all gamble going a bit upfield before the ball turns over. Gavi is free down the left wing and squares a simple pass for Lewandowski to tap into a wide-open net.

43′ Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona
Dembele makes a surging run forward before the Real defence is able to pick the ball off of him. They promptly give it right back to Barca though, leading Kroos to angrily display his displeasure with his team-mates. Both teams have been a bit sloppy at times tonight, misplacing passes.
